Ollie 10/12/18

Technical work: 8ths and 16ths around the kit with a bass drum on the 1:4 note. Make sure you are being as strict with your right hand right foot coordination as you can be.

Try playing three bars of groove and then adding a fill after of either 8th notes around the kit or 16ths.

Yellow: grooves up to c are sounding really secure and well played. Your next challenge is to master the bass drum pattern at letter C.

Start working on my name is.

Max 10/12/18

WArm up: practice the three bars of groove one bar of fill ex from this week. Remember not to go fast when you play your groove so the tempo doesn't change when you play the fill.

Wretch 32: the first two lines need practicing so that you can play all the way through including all the bass drum variations.

I want to break free: this track is all about stamina and consistency. The groove is simple but quite quick so make sure you are practicing up to the tempo you need to play it at.

Aaron 10/12/18

Warm up: free bound ex for next week.

Losing my religion: well played today. I would like you focus on the verse part at letter b. Just make sure that you are playing relaxed and in time with the track all the way through.
Also the fill in the second time bar for next week!

Regulation riddim: intro and first groove to look at for next week!
Nicely played this week.

Tom 10/12/18

Bounce catch ex looking smooth this week. See if you can get two bounces after the initial hit and then use the back fingers to control the stick.

Sweet home: main groove better this week. Have a look at the entire intro for next week. Use the 1/4 groove ex to help with developing your bass drum control and coordination for next week.

In my place by cold play: to look at the main groove for next week.

Price 10/12/18

Warm up: practice 8th notes and 16th notes but counting while you play them
8ths 1+ 2+ 3+ 4+
16 1e+a 2e+a 3e+a 4 e+a
Have a go at the groove for best life.

Also start working on this groove for next week

Aaron L 10/12/18

Warm up with. Ex 5-9 from lesson 10 below.

Mustang Sally: main groove to get secure to the track for next week.

Uptown funk:  the instrumental groove (with the fill) still needs a little work. Make sure you right hand is relaxed for the fill so you can achieve an even flow of 16th notes.

Lewis 10/12/18

Open hi-hat ex to practice. Just open the hi-hat for the 1+ and 3+ then close crisply with the snare on beat 2 and 4.

Yeah: well played today! Some work on the transition from bar 8-9 to do but overall really well played.
Keep working in this to the track for next week.

Midnight hour: first two bars played well. Start working on bar 3 and 4 for next week.

Billie Jean: practice the groove for Billie Jean, aiming to come in tight and in time with the track. It is stamina and discipline that is the challenge with this track.

Annabelle 10/12/18

16th notes sounding good this week. Your next task is to practice them as a one bar fill. Play one bar if groove and then make the transition into the fill.

Midnight hour: excellent work on the first two bars. Keep practicing this phrase. Also look at the next 2 bars. It starts with the same phrase but finishes on the hi hat and snare!

Yeah: both grooves played well today. Practice the transition between bar 8 and 9.

Oscar 10/12/18

Triplet fill ex to practice in context (use as a fill fir a shuffle groove.)
Smooth 2 bars before D to tidy up. This phrase needs to be first time every time!
Start working on the hi hat groove at letter D.

Ollie 03/12/18

Warm up: 8ths and 16ths around the kit.
Watch your grip stays as good as you can throughout.

Bar 9 and 11 of yellow have bass drum carnations for you to look at. The rest if this piece is coming together really well. Good work this lesson. Just watch that you don't rush and try to play things too fast or loop things before they are comfortable.

Aaron 03/12/18

Warm up 16ths and 8ths from last week.

Losing my religion: intro played well this week. Just watch you don't hesitate when you go for the crash. Have a look at the fill in bar 9 for next lesson.

Start playing to the track if you can.

Lewis 03/12/18

WArm up: 16th notes around the kit are looking better. Your grip is much improved. Just be careful if adding in an extra bass drum on beat 4.

Billie Jean: groove is secure. Start increasing tempo but maybe just aim for two or three bars until you feel confident playing at that tempo!

Tom 03/12/18

Bounce catch ex to practice for next week. Let the stick bounce twice before using the back fingers to control the stick and stop it bouncing.

Funky president: first bar is sounding good. Practice it for next week. Start looking at the second bar for next lesson.

Sweet Home: this groove is coming together well. You identified that the double bass drums are the weak link so try to make this more reliable for next lesson if you can!

Tigan 03/12/18

Great work with Dock of the bay this week. You played this to the track really nicely. The next step is to try and develop a more confident sound a feel by increasing the volume of your bass drum.
Try practicing to the track for next lesson. Well done Tigan

Chris 03/12/18

Warm up:
Keep working on the accented paradiddles for next week.

Standard: look at the groove at C. Use the mechanics. Technique. Sound. Application method to develop! Listen to the two the tracks for reference.
Great work this week Chris.

Hattie 03/12/18

I want to break free: this is sounding much better. Just work on being able to play it to tempo. Start with one bar and then when thus is comfortable gradually increase it!

Start working on Billie Jean for next week.

Aaron L 03/12/18

Warm up with these ex's below. Play through each line twice before moving on the next one.

Your task with up town funk us to get the instrumental section confident and tidy for next lesson.
Focus on the flow of the transitions after the fill.

Lewis 03/12/18

Warm up: play two bars of groove. For bar one keep the hi-hat hat tightly closed then lift your toe on your left foot to let the hi-hat give a slightly looser sound. Keep the groove simple and the tempo slower to start.

Midnight hour: focus one the first two bars of this piece for next lesson. Use the approach you managed this lesson. Not too fast really relaxed and very focused! Great progress this week.

Yeah: keep practicing this piece. Again great progress. Don't worry too much about the ending at this stage to just play through it. Watch you don't slow down when the hi-at pattern changes.

Annabelle 03/12/18

16th notes to practice around the kit.

Midnight hour: great work on that first bar from last lesson! Your practice for this week is to get the first two bars comfortable for next week. Increase the tempo and see if you can play it to the track!

Nathaniel 03/12/18

Hold the line: practice the whole track up to section F. Your reading was excellent this week and you played really well to the track.

Focus your efforts on the fill in bar 52. Be super careful of your sticking. It needs to RH lead!

Max 03/12/18

Warm up: well played today. Keep pushing the tempo. Your next challenge is to use each phrase as a drum "fill". Play three bars of groove and then play a fill around the drums. Make sure your tempo is the same from the groove into the fill.

Yellow: all parts of this were played well today. It is transitions between grooves that need the work. If you feel you slow down when you play through focus on those 2or3 bars and then play through from the start again.

Good recording today Max.
